چکیده

Spatially homogeneous thermal explosions governed by a three-step chain-branching kinetic model are described in the asymptotic limit of large activation energy for a range of chain-branching cross-over temperatures. The model consists of a sequence of chain-initiation, chain-branching and chain-termination steps. Temperaturesensitive Arrhenius kinetics is employed for the initiation and branching steps, while the termination step has a temperature-independent rate. Marked distinctions in structure arise as the magnitude of the chain-branching crossover temperature is increased relative to the initial system temperature. Attention is focused on the regime where the chain-branching cross-over temperature is close to the initial system temperature. Results are also obtained for the fast and slow explosion limits where the two temperatures are not close.

Chemical Kinetics of Hydrocarbon Ignition in Practical Combustion Systems

Chemical kinetic factors of hydrocarbon oxidation are examined in a variety of ignition problems. Ignition is related to the presence of a dominant chain branching reaction mechanism that can drive a chemical system to completion in a very short period of time. Ignitio n in laboratory environments is studied for problems including shock tubes and rapid compression machines. Modeling of the labo...

From One-step to Chain-branching Premixed Flame Asymptotics

The one-step model for chemistry has a successful history in providing a paradigm for describing many kinds of flame structure. If the activation energy is considered to be a large parameter, then an asymptotic picture emerges that is often simple enough to provide explicit solutions which describe such phenomena as structure, stability, ignition, and extinction. Qualitatively correct descripti...

GLOBAL KINETICS FOR n-HEPTANE IGNITION AT HIGH PRESSURES

A kinetic mechanism of 1011 elementary reactions with 171 chemical species for n-heptane ignition is analysed and reduced to 4 global steps with adjusted rate coefficients to describe ignition at pressures around 40 atm. Two of these steps account for the high temperature branch and the other two for the low temperature branch of the ignition mechanism. The ignition delay time passes through a ...

Effects of strain rate on high-pressure nonpremixed n-heptane autoignition in counterflow

The effect of steady strain on the transient autoignition of n-heptane at high pressures is studied numerically with detailed chemistry and transport in a counterflow configuration. Skeletal and reduced n-heptane mechanisms are developed and validated against experiments over a range of pressure and stoichiometries. Two configurations are investigated using the skeletal mechanism. First, the ef...

Effect of Hydrogen Addition to Natural Gas on Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition Combustion Engines Performance and Emissions Using a Thermodynamic Simulation

The HCCI combustion process is initiated due to auto-ignition of fuel/air mixture which is dominated by chemical kinetics and therefore fuel composition has a significant effect on engine operation and a detailed reaction mechanism is essential to analysis HCCI combustion. A single zone-model permits to have a detailed chemical kinetics modeling for practical fuels. In this study a single-zone ...
